CCBA Scholarships

2026 Scholarship Information
(revised June 2026)
The Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association of San Diego (CCBA-SD) is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to provide benevolent, cultural and educational programs to preserve Chinese identity and empower the community across generations.CCBA-SD offers three scholarships annually:

  • The Roger Lee Memorial Scholarship commemorates Roger Lee, a long-time member of the CCBA-SD Board of Directors, by recognizing a student who embodies the spirit of volunteerism and devotion to service for others. This is a $2,000 scholarship. Two winners will be selected.
  • The Dennis Avery Memorial Scholarship, offered in honor of philanthropist and supporter of CCBA-SD Dennis Avery, provides financial assistance to a student who exemplifies perseverance and commitment to educational success despite personal or financial hardship. This is a $2,000 scholarship.
  • The Rollie Quon Memorial Scholarship commemorates Yick Ng “Rollie” Quon, former manager of the Lucky Lion Dance Troupe and long-time member of the CCBA-SD Board of Directors, by acknowledging a student’s contribution to the Lucky Lion Dancers. This is a $2,000 scholarship.

The deadline to apply is June 15, 2026.

Program Overview and Qualifications:

  • Only one of the above scholarships may be awarded to any one person.
  • The deadline to apply is June 15, 2026. Winners will be notified after June 30 2026. Committee review will take place from June 16 to June 30.
  • The applicant must have lived in San Diego County for a minimum of 12 consecutive months.
  • The applicant shall have immediate plans to enter a 2-year college or 4-year university in the same year of high school graduation.
  • Applicants must be able to submit a copy of their high school transcript and two letters of recommendation.
  • For the Roger Lee Memorial Scholarship, at least one recommendation must come from an organization or person where the applicant volunteered.
  • Applicants will be automatically disqualified in the event of plagiarism or use of AI tools.

Additional Scholarship Specific Requirements:

  • Roger Lee Memorial Scholarship: At least one letter of recommendation must come from an organization or individual where the applicant volunteered.
  • Dennis Avery Memorial Scholarship: Applicants must have completed a FAFSA and provide a copy of their SAR (Student Aid Report), emailed to scholarships@ccbasd.org with SSN redacted.
  • Rollie Quon Memorial Scholarship: Applicants must be an active member of CCBA’s Lucky Lion Dance Troupe with required participation as verified by the Troupe leader.

Application Process:

  • Complete the 2026 Online Application Form in its entirety.
  • Email a copy of your official high school transcript and two letters of recommendation to scholarships@ccbasd.org.
  • Letters of recommendation should be from a teacher, counselor, principal, mentor or employer and include contact information.
  • All application materials must be received by 11:59 PM (Pacific Time) on June 15, 2026.
